January brings another set of Xbox server closures, leaving players scrambling to enjoy their favorite games before they’re gone. To help you figure out where to focus your gaming efforts, we’ve compiled a handy list of all the server shutdowns scheduled for January 2025, alongside the closures from December 2024.
Xbox Server Closures for January 2025:
First up, WWE 2K23 had its servers initially slated to shut down at the end of September but, due to a delay from 2K Games, will now close on January 6, 2025. This affects both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions, impacting a total of 13 achievements that will become unreachable. A heads-up for those who haven’t noticed yet: WWE 2K23 is no longer available on the Xbox store.
Next on the list, EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour servers are set to close on January 16, 2025. Once the servers go offline, two online-only achievements, "Playing For Fun" and "Playing For Rank," will be out of reach. These achievements are fairly straightforward, requiring you to participate in an unranked head-to-head game. It’s also important to mention that this game already has two achievements that are impossible to complete, so getting 100% completion is already off the table for some players.
Wrapping up the January closures, Bandai Namco’s Blue Protocol is scheduled to shut down on January 18, 2025. This free-to-play MMORPG, which never saw a Western release, is only available for download through the Japanese Xbox store. Given its limited availability, it’s likely that only a few players have experienced Blue Protocol. Nevertheless, all achievements will become obsolete once the servers are shut down.
In case you missed it, December 2024 will also see 19 Xbox games removed, including several major titles. Are there any online achievements you need to grab before these games are permanently gone? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
