The team at ZeniMax Online Studios has taken a significant step by forming a union.
Organized under the Communication Workers of America, this new bargaining unit includes 461 employees who have come together to unionize. These employees span across various states, including California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. Among them are web developers, designers, engineers, and graphic artists.
John Hartzell, who is a principal economy designer and a proud union member, shared his thoughts: “Today, I’m incredibly proud of my colleagues at ZeniMax Online Studios. Together, we’re part of a growing movement within the gaming industry, as thousands of video game workers strive to bring more security and stability to our field. No matter where you’re working or what your role is, unions are there to advocate for all of us.”
Echoing this sentiment, senior motion graphics artist Alyssa Gobelle expressed, “By uniting and forming a union, we’re taking bold strides to secure a better future for ourselves and our families. This means establishing protections against layoffs and workplace exploitation. It means creating additional support networks that go beyond what the Family and Medical Leave Act and existing workplace policies offer. At ZeniMax, unions have a rightful place.”
