We’re all eagerly anticipating the first peek at James Gunn’s take on Superman, with the trailer dropping later this week. Until then, Gunn has given us a taste by unveiling the film’s main theme.
James Gunn has quite the task ahead of him. As the co-CEO of DC Studios, he’s steering the new DC Universe in a new direction, a move that’s as exciting as it is risky. Success could rejuvenate the franchise, but another failure might mean the end of DC’s cinematic universe dreams. There’s only so much rebooting audiences can handle, regardless of what comic books suggest. Gunn recently announced on his Twitter page that fans can expect a teaser this Thursday for his Superman film. This marks a new era for the DC Universe, although technically, his animated series, Creature Commandos, is already paving the way.
To keep us entertained until Thursday, Gunn has gifted us a snippet of the film’s theme. Take a listen—it’s paired with a looping clip of David Corenswet’s Superman soaring through the sky. The music is wonderfully soothing, giving off a nostalgic vibe. If you listen closely, you’ll catch echoes of the iconic 1978 Superman theme, composed by the legendary John Williams.
This fresh theme is crafted by John Murphy, well-known for his work on hits like 28 Days Later, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and The Suicide Squad, which was also directed by Gunn. Superman is their third collaboration, with Murphy recently scoring Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well.
While we’ll soon get a glimpse of the film in this week’s teaser, the full movie won’t hit theaters until July 11 next year. But hang in there—it’ll be worth the wait!
