At CES 2025, NVIDIA revealed some exciting news: they’re broadening the horizons of their GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform to include Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
Now, if you were hoping this would mean streaming your favorite VR-native games from the cloud, that’s not quite the case here. Instead, these headsets will be able to play the usual array of standard games, the ones you’d typically fire up on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and handheld gaming devices.
Those using Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico headsets can look forward to streaming games through GeForce NOW right from their browsers once version 2.0.70 is made available later this month. NVIDIA promises that this update will bring “all the bells and whistles” of their tech arsenal, including immersive ray tracing and the awesome NVIDIA DLSS. For VR headset users, this means you can enjoy gamepad-compatible titles on what NVIDIA calls a “massive virtual screen.”
One of the great perks of NVIDIA’s service is that it provides free access at a basic level. For those craving more, there are various daily passes and monthly subscription options that unlock higher quality experiences. Plus, the library is nothing to scoff at, with over 2,000 titles to explore!
NVIDIA isn’t exactly breaking new ground here. Back in 2022, Pluto VR tried a similar venture by bringing its brief cloud gaming service to Quest with PlutoSphere. This app, however, was removed from the store in early 2024 when Meta began cracking down on unapproved cloud streaming services.
Interestingly, Microsoft managed to get the go-ahead to bring its Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass library to Quest by the end of 2023, setting the stage for more cloud-based gaming options on VR platforms.
