Throughout the past year, information about Sony’s SRH-S1 standalone mixed reality headset has been quite scarce since its reveal at CES 2024. However, we now have an official launch date and pricing details for this enterprise-targeted device.
Developed in collaboration with Siemens, the aptly named Sony SRH-S1 is set to hit the market in February 2025, with a steep price tag of $4,750. This positioning clearly indicates a focus on enterprise customers. Starting January 23rd, 2025, interested buyers can place their orders directly through Siemens.
Originally presented as appealing to creatives, it’s evident that Sony and Siemens have now shifted their focus toward industrial applications. They claim the SRH-S1 will “enable the industrial metaverse,” facilitating advancements in product design and manufacturing through the robust mixed reality tools offered by Siemens.

The headset boasts an impressive 13.6MP (3,552 × 3840) per eye, powered by Sony’s own ECX344A OLED microdisplay, alongside a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. Additionally, Sony has integrated what they describe as a “proprietary rendering technology” for dynamic 3D object rendering.
As a sophisticated mixed reality device, the Sony SRH-S1 features passthrough video capabilities, a flip-up visor, and a pair of ergonomic controllers designed to feel as intuitive as traditional pen and paper. These controllers come in the form of a stylus-type pointer and a ring for enhanced 3D interactions.

Over the year, Siemens has taken strides in enhancing its suite of Immersive Engineering tools. These enterprise-focused tools empower SRH-S1 users to design 3D assets in CAD, engage with models, and conduct multi-user design reviews remotely, leveraging Siemens’ cloud-based NX X platform.
“After previewing the HMD at CES last year, our collaborative teams have crafted tools that are set to transform how mixed reality is utilized in engineering—not just to support global collaboration with high-fidelity 3D models, but to allow direct co-creation on crucial 3D CAD data in a managed and secure environment,” stated Bob Haubrock, the senior VP of Product Engineering Software at Siemens Digital Industries Software.
This announcement comes on the heels of Sony unveiling another headset at CES, a creative-focused device called XYN. Though still a prototype with no set price or release date, the XYN appears to be an iteration of the SRH-S1, standing out with its black exterior compared to the SRH-S1’s grey design. While details remain under wraps, this shows Sony’s ongoing interest in both industrial and creative sectors.
