Skyrim has seen its fair share of expansive quest mods, with one particular standout making a notable impact: Death Consumes All. Originally introduced in 2020, this mod featured a remarkably realistic plague mechanic as part of its questline. Now, thanks to a substantial update, it’s grown even more, drawing inspiration from The Witcher 3’s critically acclaimed Hearts of Stone DLC.
If you’ve dipped into the previous version of Death Consumes All, you’re in good company—the mod has been downloaded over 100,000 times on Nexus Mods. Players were intrigued by Anbeegod’s intricate, branching story that stretched a solid 10 hours, packed with full voice acting, prompting many to dive in without hesitation.
The mod creator has been hard at work since then, unveiling a revamped edition now available to players. This updated version, aptly titled ‘Death Consumes All – DLC Quest Mod (Revamped)’, extends the main questline to a staggering 30 hours.
The core concept hasn’t shifted—Skyrim is still facing the destructive threat of a plague that spreads much like an actual epidemic, poised to turn its inhabitants into an undead horde. Teaming up with the fully-realized companion, Livia Salvian, your mission is to face formidable foes, unravel the mystery behind the plague, and make decisions that will shape the fate of the realm.
But what really sets this version apart are the numerous enhancements and additions. Anbeegod explains that the original quests have undergone significant revamps to improve their narrative flow, resulting in “better storytelling and writing.” New quests have been introduced, replete with deep narratives and varied choices, increasing the total count from “over 13” to “over 17” quests. The voice acting has also seen improvements, with an additional 1000 lines of dialogue enriching the experience.
Additionally, a new feature allows players to “toggle off the plague,” effectively sparing NPCs from its lethal effects—something medieval folks would have certainly appreciated. Other adjustments aim to deliver a better-designed, balanced combat experience while minimizing bugs and compatibility issues with other mods.
For players up for 30 hours of gritty, undead combat, as their Dragonborn once again faces an apocalyptic scenario, this mod offers a thrilling ride. Plus, in an altruistic twist, Anbeegod has pledged that “50% of this mod’s donation points will be shared with Doctors Without Borders,” supporting real-world epidemic efforts. Now, that’s certainly a mission worth embarking on.
