The latest addition to the Assassin’s Creed series, apart from the VR-centric Assassin’s Creed Nexus, is Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This entry was crafted to rekindle the essence of the franchise’s early action-adventure roots, appealing to fans nostalgic for the original style. Celebrating 15 years of Assassin’s Creed, Mirage attempts to recreate the vibe of the 2007 classic by emphasizing stealth and parkour over the RPG elements that have become more prevalent in later titles. When Mirage hit the shelves in September 2023, it was met with a fair amount of praise and seemed to meet Ubisoft’s sales goals. But after that initial buzz, the chatter quieted down.
Fast forward 16 months, and whispers are emerging about potential new story DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. French publication Les Echos reports that Ubisoft might be collaborating with Saudi-based Savvy Games Group for this DLC project. It’s quite unusual for a game to get story DLC this long after its launch, especially when nothing similar was released before. However, there’s another rumor circulating that could shine some light on this surprising development.
Before diving deeper, remember that everything moving forward is speculative—rumors and leaks that should be taken with caution.
Recently, YouTuber Nate the Hate uploaded a video discussing predictions for Nintendo’s upcoming console, tentatively called the Switch 2. Nate speculates that Ubisoft is planning to release several titles for this new platform, including ports of popular games like The Division and Rainbow Six Siege, and a potential Mario + Rabbids collection. Among these, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is rumored to launch on the Switch 2, with a port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows allegedly set for later in the console’s lifecycle. Bringing Mirage to the Switch 2 could be advantageous for both Ubisoft and Nintendo: Ubisoft expands its audience, while Nintendo showcases the new device’s improved capabilities.
To convince gamers to try Chaos on the Nintendo Switch 2, Ubisoft would need to provide compelling reasons. Since Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been available for over a year, many enthusiasts have already played it. Plus, since it can be played on portable systems like the Steam Deck, the novelty of playing on the go might not suffice to encourage additional purchases.
This is where the rumored DLC for Mirage could come into play. Some feel that Basim’s journey wasn’t explored in as much depth as it could have been. A supplemental story diving deeper into his life between Mirage and Valhalla could be exactly the motivation Ubisoft needs to entice players to revisit the game—or attract new ones.
