Developer BioWare has seen its team shrink dramatically, and it’s now down to fewer than 100 members. A Bloomberg report highlights this significant change, noting that the studio has cut its workforce by more than half over the past two years—from over 200 staff members to its current number.
This sharp decline partially stems from recent layoffs as BioWare aims to hone its focus on the next installment of the Mass Effect series. Among those affected by this strategic shift are writer Trick Weekes and producer Jenn Cheverie, who have both been let go as part of this transition.
Additionally, some BioWare employees found themselves temporarily reassigned to other Electronic Arts studios. However, it seems there was some confusion, with many under the impression that these were short-term reassignments rather than permanent moves.
Explaining the changes, BioWare’s general manager Gary McKay shared that, with the project’s current development phase, the entire studio’s resources aren’t needed. He stated, “We’ve made a concerted effort over the past few months to align our talented staff with other EA teams that had suitable open roles.” This careful matching underscores the studio’s commitment to its team, even amid challenging restructuring efforts.
