Ancient Dungeon VR, a rogue-lite dungeon crawler that’s been captivating players, has just received a notable update for the PSVR 2, now featuring multiplayer co-op gameplay.
Originally hitting the scene in 2021, the game debuted through Steam Early Access and the Quest’s now-retired App Lab. It was initially crafted as a single-player journey, offering gamers over 20 hours of dungeon-exploring fun with physics-driven battles against blocky foes like wizards and skeletons, reminiscent of those classic D&D adventures we all know and love.
Last year, Quest and SteamVR users were treated to an exciting four-player co-op mode, but PSVR 2 users have been left waiting. Good news though – starting now, fans on Sony’s platform can join up to three friends in tackling Ancient Dungeon’s intricate, randomly-generated dungeons and challenging enemies together, thanks to developer Eric Thullen finally rolling out the much-anticipated multiplayer feature.
During a Reddit Q&A, Thullen addressed one of the hot questions on everyone’s mind: cross-play. Although it isn’t available right now across the different versions of the game, he assured fans that cross-play with Quest and PC VR is in the pipeline, suggesting players stay tuned for future updates.
Ancient Dungeon has really made a name for itself in the VR world, achieving indie fame shortly after its 2020 Kickstarter success and the release of a well-received beta version. The game boasted over 1,000 positive reviews, leading to a stellar rating of 4.8 out of 5. Even now, almost five years down the line, the game is consistently updated with new features like weapons, skins, and level enhancements to keep players engaged while the team works towards the anticipated 1.0 launch. Thullen’s team hinted in a recent Steam update that the full release is still a bit away, but exciting things are on the horizon.
For those eager to dive into the dungeon, Ancient Dungeon VR is available on various platforms. You can grab it on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all for $20.
