Keep an eye on your competitive rank because it’s about to vanish next week with the arrival of Marvel Rivals’ mid-season update. Today, in a developer diary post, NetEase shared that ranks will undergo a reset twice every season: initially at the start and then again midway through.
The team explained, “After thoroughly observing and considering player performance, we’ve found that ranks during the first half of Season 1 accurately reflect players’ competitive skills throughout the season. Therefore, we’re implementing an extra rank reset to better sync with upcoming updates and changes!”
Come February 21st, expect your rank to drop by four divisions. In Marvel Rivals, each rank has three subdivisions, except the top tiers: Eternity and One Above All. So, if you’re currently Gold I, you’ll find yourself at Silver II post-reset. When a new season launches, prepare for your rank to fall by six divisions. NetEase mentioned they’ll “adjust this” if the competitive scene turns chaotic as players find their ranks.
RivalsTracker’s public data suggests that most competitive players sit between Silver I and Gold III. This means many will be spending some time in the bronze ranks.
If you’re aiming for the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’ll need to reach Gold III by the upcoming Friday. After the mid-season update goes live, a new skin reward will be up for grabs. Plus, players will now need to complete 10 matches to earn it, ensuring that high-rank players can’t claim it without actively playing.
The impending rank reset could impact players differently, especially with some “major balance adjustments” that NetEase plans to roll out. It’s widely acknowledged that healers are currently overpowering the battlefield, and some players are hoping for improvements to Moon Knight’s ultimate ability. And then, there’s the mystery of what might unfold once characters like the Thing and Human Torch start appearing in matches.
