AMD has publicly dismissed the rumors suggesting it is developing a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU equipped with 32 GB of memory.
In a recent update, Frank Azor cleared up the confusion about the speculated 32 GB version of the RX 9070 XT. Previously, there had been whispers around the gaming community, especially from a leaker on Chiphell, about AMD introducing a new 32 GB variant of this GPU. The chatter suggested that this card would be part of the ‘Gaming’ lineup rather than the PRO series.
However, these claims have now been thoroughly debunked. Frank Azor responded directly to a post from TechPowerUp, setting the record straight with a tweet that read, “No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.”
The upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT is set to feature 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given the current capabilities of this GPU, it’s hard to imagine that a 32 GB version would significantly enhance gaming performance. While the initial rumors hinted that this enormous memory was intended for AI applications alongside gaming, it seems AMD isn’t heading in that direction.
Up until now, AMD hasn’t released a gaming GPU with a 32 GB capacity. This decision aligns with practical reasoning, as such a memory size on an upper-mid-tier GPU might not be justifiable given the performance return. The 16 GB capacity appears to be the limit for their RDNA 4 lineup, particularly as the RX 9070 XT is expected to be the flagship product, anchored by the Navi 48 GPU.
For additional context, other models like the RX 9070 and those based on the Navi 44 architecture will have specs—and by extension, performance—below the RX 9070 XT. We’re on the cusp of a broader reveal, with AMD slated to announce the RX 9000 series specs, pricing, and performance metrics officially on February 28th.
The actual retail launch will follow closely in early March. In a race closely watched by enthusiasts, NVIDIA is also set to unveil its GeForce RTX 5070 GPU around the same time. As Azor previously highlighted, AMD’s ’70-class’ GPUs are designed to compete head-to-head with NVIDIA’s equivalent offerings, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between the RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, and NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070.
