Rockstar Games, the powerhouse behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise, has officially acquired the developer Video Games Deluxe. The specifics of the agreement are still under wraps, but the deal marks a significant shift, rebranding the studio as Rockstar Australia. This team has been instrumental in handling various Rockstar projects, including re-releases like L.A. Noire and its VR counterpart, as well as patching up issues with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition.
Video Games Deluxe traces its roots back to Brendan McNamara, originally the founder of Team Bondi, the developers of L.A. Noire. Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar’s head of publishing, expressed her enthusiasm about the acquisition: “After years of collaboration, we’re thrilled to welcome Video Games Deluxe to the family as Rockstar Australia.”
Brendan McNamara shared similar sentiments about the merger, saying, “It’s been a privilege to partner with Rockstar Games over the last decade. Joining their ranks as part of Rockstar Games is a thrilling opportunity for us to continue our mission of creating outstanding games.”
In more blockbuster news, Rockstar announced that the Grand Theft Auto series has surpassed 440 million units shipped, underscoring the franchise’s monumental success and enduring appeal.
