In Walkabout Mini Golf, you can now thrill at the chance to conquer Mount Olympus, the latest and most expansive course added to the game. This new addition marks the 32nd course following the glitzy theme of Viva Las Elvis, which launched in January. As studio head Lucas Martell hints, this Olympian adventure promises to be even grander than last year’s Temple At Zerzura.
What’s in store for players? Imagine standing high above the sparkling Aegean Sea, immersed in the sacred realm where gods and goddesses weave the destinies of mortals. Your journey through this mythical miniature golf course will have you navigating complex temples and enchanting landscapes, all the while sidestepping challenging obstacles. Yet, what truly raises the stakes is the looming judgment of the Olympian Council—they alone will decide whether your skills earn you triumph or if you’ll incur the divine ire.
As you ascend Mount Olympus, Zeus, Apollo, Artemis, and other iconic figures from Greek mythology make their presence felt through various temples and tributes scattered along your path. This thrilling experience, detailed by Walkabout creator Lucas Martell, became our longest exposition yet, unraveling over a 28-minute inside look at the creative journey.
Recently, I had the pleasure of discussing this design journey with Don Carson, the senior art director at Mighty Coconut. Carson shared their commitment to exceeding expectations by adopting a complex, layered design strategy. This approach means that courses are meticulously crafted, handed off between teams, and polished over more than a year to achieve the desired depth. The studio, affectionately nicknamed “The Coconuts,” now boasts a staff of dozens, all dedicated to this creative pursuit.
Given the massive success sparked by the Elvis course, which recorded the best single sales day in the game’s five-year history, there’s an eager anticipation to see if Mount Olympus will see players flocking back for yet another thrilling purchase spree.
