MSI has stepped forward to address the swirling rumors about an alleged NVIDIA RTX 5090 recall, asserting that the claims are unfounded and originated from an unauthorized retailer.
According to MSI, there’s no risk of a “fire hazard” with NVIDIA’s RTX 5090s. The company has announced plans to confront the retailer who started these misleading rumors.
Yesterday, a bit of a storm brewed when news broke from a retailer in the Netherlands suggesting that NVIDIA was recalling its GeForce RTX 5090s due to fire hazards, allegedly affecting an MSI SUPRIM model. This buzz caught significant attention, leading MSI to swiftly issue a press release to debunk the claims. Here’s their official response:
MSI discovered on June 3, 2025, through an article on the Kitguru website, that a Dutch retailer called UW GAME SPECIALIST had allegedly informed a customer about an unfulfilled order because five GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC cards were “recalled” over fire hazards.
They firmly declared that these claims are entirely false, stating no recall is underway and their products don’t pose any such risk. Moreover, MSI clarified that this retailer isn’t one of their partners, which raised questions about the credibility of the claims.
MSI also hinted at possible legal action against those responsible for these damaging allegations, which have the potential to tarnish their brand reputation. They even listed recommended authorized resellers to guide consumers in making more informed purchases:
– Megekko
– Azerty
– Alternate NL
– Alternate BE
– SHS
– CPS
– PDC
– Bol
– Coolblue
– Copaco
This statement should put to rest any worries about the RTX 5090s having flaws, especially relating to potential fire hazards. If any risk was present, it would indicate issues with the power connector. NVIDIA, often referred to as Team Green, is already grappling with supply challenges and technical hiccups in the RTX 50 series, including missing ROPs and incidents of black screens.
For now, consumers can rest easy about their RTX 5090s catching fire, based on MSI’s assurances. All the same, it’s prudent for users to handle their RTX Blackwell GPU installations with care.
