Today marks an exciting collaboration between Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment, as they’ve teamed up to create a new video game, currently known only by its intriguing code name “Project Delta.” While details about this ambitious venture are scarce since the formal partnership was only finalized yesterday, PlayStation enthusiasts are buzzing with the hope that this might herald the return of the much-loved SOCOM franchise.
A keen-eyed Reddit user from the PS5 subreddit was quick to spot that this collaboration involves one of Sony’s well-known intellectual properties. Given People Can Fly’s track record with action-packed shooters like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, it’s reasonable to narrow down the likely candidates from Sony’s library. Among the lively discussions in the subreddit, the idea of a new SOCOM game seems to be leading the charge. Others have speculated possibilities including revivals of Killzone, Resistance, or even Warhawk.
One Redditor speculated, “It’s got to be either SOCOM or Killzone since the developer specializes in shooters.” Another chimed in, “Resistance is also a strong contender.”
Reflecting on past gaming hits, another user fondly reminisced, “I wouldn’t mind a Warhawk reboot. That game was ahead of its time, almost like Fortnite before Fortnite took off. Sony just didn’t seize the moment back then.”
Meanwhile, some can’t help but voice their personal wishes, with one eager fan declaring, “Please God, let it be Resistance.”
Of course, this is all conjecture at this stage. There’s always the chance they could surprise us with something completely unexpected, like a third-person shooter inspired by Knack. Whatever the outcome, it seems we’ll need to practice patience, as the full reveal might still be a few years out.
For those not steeped in the history, SOCOM was a much-celebrated tactical shooter series that graced the PS2, PS3, and PSP. The latest release was SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs back in 2011, which garnered a tepid response with a Metacritic score of 67 based on 64 reviews. It’s been quite some time since new life was breathed into this once-vibrant series. So, could “Project Delta” be the revival fans have been waiting for? Only time will tell.
