A creative Pokemon fan has reimagined Michelangelo’s famous painting, The Creation of Adam, by infusing it with a Pokemon theme. This unique artwork envisions the moment Mew, the mythical Pokemon, is brought to life by none other than Arceus, the creator of the Pokemon universe.
Longtime fans of the franchise will recall when Mew first appeared in Pokemon Red and Blue. It’s widely regarded as one of the original Pokemon, possessing the DNA of every species, marking it as their ancestor. However, as the series expanded, it was revealed that Arceus is responsible for the creation of the entire Pokemon universe. Inspired by this lore, the artist set about creating a Pokemon-themed adaptation of Michelangelo’s iconic work.
On Reddit, an artist known by the username Cordio04 unveiled their unique rendition, cleverly titled The Creation of Mew. This creative work pays homage to the original fresco on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, which dates back to the 1500s. In Cordio04’s piece, Arceus extends its leg to touch Mew’s tail, capturing the playful and buoyant nature of Mew as it floats on its back. It’s a nod to both the grandeur of Arceus as a creator and the whimsical characteristics of Mew, intertwining deep lore with artistry. It’s fitting that such a blend of classic art and pop culture emerges from a franchise steeped in world-building and mythos.
Still, Cordio04’s artistic journey is far from over. The original fresco boasts many figures and symbols, and the artist is looking to expand their version with similar grandeur. Plans are already underway to add the Lake Guardian Trio, reflective of their creation by Arceus. Adding silhouettes of other Mythic and Legendary Pokemon to Arceus’ Life Plates has been suggested but could potentially overcrowd the scene. Cordio04 has considered recoloring the plates instead to give a subtle nod to these Pocket Monsters. Enthusiastic fans have also encouraged the addition of the Creation Trio, and the artist intends to explore this idea as well.
The anticipation builds around Cordio04’s evolving masterpiece. It’s intriguing to see how the depiction of Pokemon’s origin story, which continues to be a hot topic among fans, will be interpreted. Debates linger around which Pokemon deserves the “first” title, with some pointing to Bulbasaur, due to its position as the first in the game’s original Pokedex, and others to Rhydon, recognized as the first one designed.
