Baldur’s Gate 3 has easily claimed the spotlight as one of 2023’s standout releases, earning multiple Game of the Year accolades and leaving a significant mark on its player base. Yet, despite its acclaim, fans across the board have been vocal about some missing features, which are finally being addressed in the upcoming Patch 8.
What new features can we expect with Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8?
Prepare yourselves, adventurers, because Patch 8 is the next substantial update for this beloved RPG. Slated to land early next year, this patch is poised to introduce cross-play, a photo mode, and an impressive lineup of 12 new subclasses across all platforms, including the PS5.
As outlined in the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update, cross-play will offer the opportunity for players on different platforms to connect and play together. Whether you’re navigating your journey on PS5, PC, Xbox, or Mac, you’ll be able to band together with friends. To make use of this feature, you’ll need to enable cross-play and have a Larian Network account.
The addition of a photo mode is another exciting highlight, allowing players to capture memorable moments throughout their gaming adventures. The mode brings a variety of camera settings that let you spotlight specific characters within your party, along with lens settings, scene adjustments, post-processing effects, frames, and stickers to enhance your photos. This feature can be used both during gameplay and in cinematics, although camera and lens settings aren’t adjustable during the cinematic scenes.
And let’s not overlook the 12 new subclasses this patch introduces, each tailored to our beloved existing classes with fresh abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, and cantrips. Here’s what’s coming your way:
- Bard – College of Glamour
- Barbarian – Path of Giants
- Cleric – Death Domain
- Druid – Circle of Stars
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown
- Fighter – Arcane Archer
- Monk – Drunken Master
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper
- Rogue – Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
- Warlock – Hexblade
- Wizard – Bladesinging
Larian Studios is gearing up to thoroughly stress-test Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3. PS5 players eager to dive in can register for the testing phase set for January. The studio will lay out the steps for joining the tests in their upcoming Community Update.
