Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set to Launch on Xbox in September, Closed Alpha Kicks Off This Month

Bungie has unveiled a sneak peek into its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, giving us our first real taste of the gameplay. Mark your calendars for September 23rd, 2025, when Marathon is set to launch on both the Xbox Series X and Series S.

In this thrilling game, you’ll step into the shoes of a Runner—cybernetic mercenaries each boasting unique and special abilities. Form a squad with up to three players and strategize to take on dangerous AI security forces and rival Runner teams. As you navigate this perilous landscape, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and equipment. Survive, and you get to keep everything you collect for your future escapades.

Diving into the zone with your team of three, your mission is to loot as much as you can and make it out alive. You’ll encounter various threats, including hostile AI security forces and other competing teams. Your aim? Survive and keep everything you’ve managed to loot. For those craving an extra thrill, you’ve got the option to brave the match solo, tackling entire teams on your own and extracting with all the spoils single-handedly.
