EA and Maxis have a delightful surprise for fans of the classic Sims series in celebration of the game’s 25th anniversary. The eagerly awaited re-releases of the first two Sims games are indeed happening, and they are hitting the digital shelves today.
Initially, there were whispers that EA planned to make these games available for PC by the end of January, so right on cue this week, they’ve done just that—January 31, perfect timing to cap off a Friday.
These re-releases, labeled as The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, can be purchased via the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam. What’s more, both games are also bundled together in the Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for fans who want to indulge in a bit more nostalgia.
EA shared their excitement in a recent announcement: “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles that contain familiar neighborhoods and beloved characters. Think sneaky burglars, unpredictable genies, and Sunny the Tragic Clown—all the iconic elements that welcomed so many into our community. Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics.”
Now, if you’re considering diving back into these beloved games, let’s talk prices—$39.99 for the bundle, $19.99 for just The Sims: Legacy Collection, and $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. Each version includes a range of expansion packs, though it seems The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff pack is missing from the lineup.
Despite this little hiccup, you’re still getting two unique holiday packs and the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to keep your corporate flair alive. In addition, these re-releases also include The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit; the former comes with the first game, and the latter with the second—perfect for those who haven’t nabbed these extras yet.
So, if you’ve been spending too much time lounging around the quirky “meme jacuzzi” on EA’s new Sims Y2K website, perhaps now’s the time to step out, dry off your meme-water-covered behind, and reacquaint yourself with these classic games. Enjoy the nostalgia trip!
