Devolver Digital is back at it again with their signature flair, presenting the Devolver Delayed Awards—a pre-recorded "awards" show exclusively for a trio of their games that are being pushed to 2025.
In true Devolver fashion, the event is packed with their trademark sarcasm, as they humorously commend their developers for their "courage and determination to delay their games into the next fiscal year." Let’s dive into the winners and the faux nominees:
Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Besides the imaginary categories filled with hypothetical games (honestly, I’d definitely try out Windshield Repair Simulator), the Devolver Delayed Awards also featured speeches from the developers of the actual delayed titles, all of which are set for a 2025 release. Just a side note—Sam Eng from Skate Story had a bit of a mishap and broke his arm, so cut him some slack if you’re wondering why the game isn’t out yet.
This isn’t the first time Devolver has taken this approach. In 2023, they parodied the Nintendo Direct format with their own twist. Last year’s Devolver Delayed Showcase proudly announced postponements for games like The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
While delays might be tough to handle from a business standpoint, it’s refreshing to see Devolver allowing developers the time to see their creative visions through, rather than rushing out unfinished products for quick profits.
According to Devolver Digital’s official website, other exciting titles like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike are still in the queue without confirmed release dates.
