And just like that, my streak of not spending a dime on Nintendo Switch Online has come to an end.
Nintendo recently announced that some popular features on the Switch are set to conclude right after Xenoblade Chronicles X gets its re-release. Moreover, these won’t be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2.
In a recent update, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program is set to be discontinued starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program offered a 1% return in eShop credit for the first year on physical 1st party releases and a 5% automatic credit on all eShop purchases. The only leeway will be for physical games coming out between March 25, 2024, and their expiration date, like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, titles such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t be part of this.
On another note, Nintendo has updated details about the Switch Online Vouchers. These won’t be applicable for games on Switch 2. Previously, subscribers could pick up pairs of these vouchers for $99 US or equivalent and redeem them for first-party releases. However, they’ll still be valid for future titles released on the original Switch, including Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
