February 2025 is shaping up to be a relatively quiet month for major video game releases—though that’s partly because one big title has already been postponed. However, there’s something fresh and exciting on the horizon worth checking out: “Keep Driving,” a driving RPG that combines turn-based combat with the fun of collecting various items.
If you haven’t heard of this quirky little game, let me fill you in. I dabbled with the demo during last year’s Steam Next Fest, and let’s just say I only got defeated by a puddle once. The game revolves around a road trip to a friend’s place, where you and your car have to contend with the typical challenges one faces while driving. Throw in the added complexity of needing food and sleep along the way, and you’ve got quite the adventure.
Mark your calendars because the full version of “Keep Driving” is driving onto the scene on February 6 for PC via Steam. The Swedish developers, YCJY Games, spilled the beans in a cheerful tweet. The latest trailer shows off turn-based car skirmishes against tractors, sheep, and potholes. Plus, you get a sneak peek at some extra cars you can load with gear for yourself, your vehicle, and any hitchhikers you invite along for the ride. Speaking of cars, while I grew fond of the demo’s not-quite-a-Volvo, there’s something undeniably appealing about hitting the road in a pickup truck that makes the Johnny Cash fan in me pretty excited.
Currently, “Keep Driving” is a PC exclusive, but there’s hope for console enthusiasts. One developer hinted in a reply that they are considering a console release in the future, albeit they’re still undecided about which ones, apart from the Switch. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a PS2 port—I’d love to switch between this and some classic Need for Speed Underground action.
Here’s hoping the full game revs up those vibes that I thoroughly enjoyed the first time around.
