Virtuix has exciting news for VR enthusiasts with the launch of their immersive tourism app tailored for the Omni One VR treadmill. This app allows users to embark on virtual journeys through some of the globe’s most famous destinations, turning the act of walking into a journey of exploration.
Set to launch on March 6th, the app, aptly named TREKS, integrates immersive video with the physical sensation of walking. Imagine trekking through astonishing locations like the majestic trails of the Grand Canyon, the vibrant paths of New York’s Central Park, or the historic corridors of Riyadh’s Fort Masmak. All of this will be available on Virtuix’s Omni One all-in-one VR system.
Developed by Virtuix Studios, the app will be exclusively accessible through the Omni One Game Store, with a price tag of $30. At launch, users can explore four stunning destinations:
- Grand Canyon: Wander along the trails and take in the breathtaking cliffs of this natural marvel.
- Niagara Falls: Feel the force of one of the world’s most spectacular waterfalls from both the American and Canadian vantage points.
- New York City: Discover iconic sites like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Fort Masmak and marvel at the architectural beauty of the Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios plans to expand this virtual travel experience with additional locations via downloadable content in the coming months. These updates promise even more opportunities to explore new landmarks, historical venues, and natural wonders. Plus, moving through these digital landscapes is more than just entertaining; Virtuix notes that walking in TREKS for an hour can burn approximately 500 calories.
Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix, shares the vision behind TREKS: “With TREKS, you’re not just watching these destinations—you’re moving through them. It’s a fantastic way to stay active while virtually exploring some of the world’s most iconic places. Fitness and adventure go hand in hand, and TREKS brings that to life in a whole new way.”
The Omni One system, retailing at $3,495, includes the VR treadmill, as well as a customized Pico 4 Enterprise headset. This setup supports both native apps through its internal processing power and can tether to a VR-ready PC, either wired or wirelessly, enhancing the versatility of the system.
Last month, Virtuix announced that the Omni One now supports over 55 gaming titles. Recent popular additions include the Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius.
The system also boasts compatibility with SteamVR games, thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver. This feature allows players to create custom controls and tweak settings, enabling them to adapt non-native games for the treadmill experience.
