Imagine a scenario you never thought possible: taking a behind-the-scenes look at a movie set right from where you’re sitting now. You’ll get to see all the intricate details, from the action-packed stunts to the dynamic actors, guided by none other than director Eli Roth himself.
io9 has something really exciting to share—a fantastic new video captured on the set of “Borderlands,” the much-anticipated video game adaptation. In collaboration with Light Sail VR, Roth filmed some phenomenal scenes featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. And while this footage looks amazing in VR, rest assured, it’s pretty impressive in 2D as well.
“I’ve always been a big fan of VR technology,” Roth explained. “Since 2018, I’ve been using a GoPro 360. When the pandemic hit, I knew that visiting sets wasn’t feasible. So, I aimed to give fans an immersive experience to feel what being on set and recreating the mesmerizing world of ‘Borderlands’ was like. You’ll see the intricate sets constructed by our art department in Budapest, join the actors as they rehearse thrilling action, and even witness Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt soaring a hundred feet in the air as they leap from a collapsing truck bed. Teaming up with my pals at Light Sail VR, we’ve crafted an extraordinary experience, putting you right at the heart of the action. It truly captures the essence and energy of being on set with us in the wild universe of ‘Borderlands.'”
Well, here it is for you to enjoy.
“Borderlands” follows a skilled bounty hunter (played by Blanchett) as she returns to her home planet, Pandora, tasked with finding the missing daughter of the villainous Atlas (portrayed by Edgar Ramírez). Along the way, she teams up with a diverse group of characters, embarking on a journey to unravel one of Pandora’s greatest secrets. The cast also includes Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Mark your calendars for its release on August 9.
