Days Gone Remastered is set to launch on PlayStation 5 this April 25. This revamped edition promises to deliver the ultimate Days Gone experience, offering new modes and enhancements tailored for the PS5 and PS5 Pro. Excitingly, these fresh game modes, like Horde Assault, Permadeath, and Speedrun, are also making their way to PC through the Broken Road DLC. Whether you’re hopping onto the Drifter bike for the first time or revisiting a beloved journey, there’s a wealth of new content to dive into. Don’t miss out on our announcement blog for more in-depth details about the new features.
Let’s delve into one of the standout additions to Days Gone Remastered: the survival arcade mode, Horde Assault. But before we get into the nitty-gritty, you should definitely check out the gameplay trailer posted below.
What is Horde Assault mode?
Horde Assault brings an exciting twist with gameplay that keeps you on your toes as you aim for high scores. You’ll be up against larger hordes and foes like Breakers, Reachers, and those formidable Rager bears! This mode lets you fight through a world that becomes increasingly chaotic and challenging as you hold your ground. It’s a testament to Days Gone’s "This World Comes For You" mantra, offering the open-world experience in a refreshing, endless mode. Get ready to show those Freakers who’s really in charge.
Starting off in Cascade with just a sidearm, it’s a rush to get to your trusty Drifter bike, crucial for traversing the expansive landscape. Keep an eye out for Supply Boxes—these could house potent weapons, which are essential for your survival against the relentless hordes. With over 20 different weapons, including a brand-new flamethrower not featured in the Story mode, these boxes are a lifeline with unpredictable contents that reset each round.
As you fight for survival, don’t forget to replenish your resources and earn extra XP by completing Side Jobs. These mini-objectives are crucial; running low on ammo when surrounded by hordes of up to 800 Freakers is definitely not ideal! And just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, reaching the 30-minute survival mark brings on the Ultimate Horde—a ceaseless onslaught of enemies racing to overrun you. But enough talk—experience the thrill firsthand!
Survive
Level up in the game to unlock exciting rewards, including never-before-playable characters, new patch cosmetics, and Injectors that can dramatically alter your gameplay experience.
If you’re familiar with Injectors from the main story, you’ll fall right into stride here. Horde Assault ups the ante with modifiers. You can collect up to 24 unique Injectors—12 Positive and 12 Negative. Positive Injectors boost your score but also crank up the difficulty. The Negative ones, while decreasing your score, provide crucial gameplay advantages that could be the difference between surviving and succumbing to the hordes.
We won’t spoil all the surprises, but here’s a peek at what some Injectors can do:
- Exploding Freakers: When these die, they go out with a bang—literally. It’s a handy tool in thinning out those massive hordes.
- Wanted: Start at max heat level. In this scenario, the longer you last, the more challenging it becomes. With this Injector, the survival difficulty ramps up right from the start—a test only the strongest players will survive.
As you engage with Horde Assault, you progress along a Reward path spanning 35 levels. Each level rewards you with goodies like Injectors, skins, and patch cosmetics. Plus, six new characters from Days Gone, such as O’Brian, Lisa, and the crowd-pleaser Skizzo, are joining the fray. Patches are back, allowing you to personalize Deacon’s look. This time, they’re purely cosmetic but can be earned fairly and will carry over to the main story. There are bonus rewards during the Reputation Phase if you hit the target score across all four regions. We’ll keep one highly sought-after reward under wraps, but here’s a hint: it involves your bike.
While Horde Assault might be considered endgame content, you can dive into it right from the start of Days Gone Remastered. It’s advisable for new players to first get acquainted with the combat and game mechanics through the story, yet there’s nothing stopping you from jumping straight into the heart-pounding action. Horde Assault alone offers up to an additional 10 hours of gameplay—bringing a new dimension to the already packed Days Gone universe.
