Jar of Sparks, a gaming studio based in Seattle, recently informed its team that they’re hitting the pause button on their first project as they search for a new publisher to collaborate with. The founder of the studio, Jerry Hook, shared this update on LinkedIn, expressing pride in the progress the team has made on the game so far. Established in July 2024, Jar of Sparks initially received support from NetEase, a major player in the Chinese entertainment sector. However, it seems NetEase is no longer backing the studio’s debut endeavor.
Hook wrote, “During this journey, our passionate, driven, and innovative team took bold risks and pushed boundaries, striving to create something truly new and exciting for the industry.” He continued, “We couldn’t be prouder of the groundwork we’ve laid together. As we prepare for this next step, our talented team members will be exploring new opportunities. If you’re searching for exceptional professionals who are driven and think outside the box, please reach out. We’d be more than happy to connect you with some of the best developers I have had the pleasure of working beside.”
Interestingly, this marks the second instance of a NetEase-funded studio pausing development in recent months. Back in November, Worlds Untold also announced they were halting work on their inaugural project.
