Activision has recently taken a strong stance against cheaters in Call of Duty, booting over 136,000 players caught cheating in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. While regular players who have delved into the competitive scene might see this as just scratching the surface, it still marks a noteworthy improvement for fans of the Xbox shooter.
Activision’s New Moves to Combat Cheating in Call of Duty
In its ongoing battle against unfair play, Activision has axed more than 136,000 cheaters thanks to its advanced Ricochet anti-cheat systems. The team behind Ricochet has bolstered its detection models, honing their ability to pinpoint aim-botters and other notorious offenders. Additionally, they’ve introduced warning systems to flag accounts frequently teaming up with cheaters for unethical gains.
Interestingly, Activision has also addressed issues of malicious reporting. According to their policy, such behavior violates their Security and Enforcement standards. They’ve clarified misconceptions spread by cheat developers, noting that their system disregards multiple spam reports from a single user against another, only considering one report per encounter.
Coming up, Call of Duty Season 2—which is set to launch on January 28—promises to bring "New and improved client and server-side detections and systems." Alongside this, there’ll be a "Major kernel-level driver update" to bolster driver security, complemented by a "reinforced encryption process." Further down the line, in Season 3, Activision plans to unveil a "brand-new system" that will not only authenticate genuine players but also zero in on cheaters. The specifics of this innovation are yet to be disclosed, so fans will need to stay tuned for more details.
For those who find the rampant cheating in Ranked play off-putting, there’s a silver lining. Activision has confirmed that console players will soon have the option to disable cross-play with PC opponents in Ranked matches, with this feature rolling out at some point during Season 2. While this change won’t be applied to standard modes just yet, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
