Path of Exile 2 is making its grand debut later today, and the early-access sales are absolutely on fire. In fact, the game director, Jonathan Rogers, took to the screen to give a heads-up to fans. He warned that once the servers launch, you might find yourself in a bit of a login queue.
In a candid moment captured in the video below, Rogers shared some insights on the challenges that might accompany the impressive player count — over a million and climbing — eager to dive into the game when it goes live.
Rogers expressed his gratitude, “We’ve just reached one million Early Access redemptions. The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access surpasses anything we could’ve anticipated. But let’s be upfront; you might face some queues over the weekend.” He admits, “While this is fantastic news for us, it does have its drawbacks. Having anticipated a different player turnout when setting up our initial capacity, we didn’t foresee a million players hitting the servers at once. We’ve amped up our cloud capacity considerably, and new servers are on the way. Still, I’m slightly concerned about potential backend issues.”
He elaborated by saying, “We genuinely aren’t certain how our backend services will cope with exceeding the million-user mark. We’ve added more data shards and scaled our resources as much as possible, but we might bump into unforeseen limits. This surge in demand wasn’t something we predicted during the early-access phase.”
Wrapping up his announcement, Rogers expressed heartfelt thanks, “Thank you so much for your belief in this project. If we encounter server problems at launch, rest assured, we’ll be working tirelessly to resolve them. Thanks a bunch, everyone.”
It’s almost a rite of passage for any online game to grapple with login queues, but this particular scenario highlights a bright spot: Path of Exile 2 has outdone even the lofty expectations of Grinding Gear Games. Watching the success of what promises to be an outstanding sequel to an already stellar ARPG is gratifying.
Are you planning to brave the queue tonight? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
