Stress Level Zero’s adventure into physics-driven gameplay has landed them quite the success story with BONELAB (2022) on the Quest. Yet, fans have been eagerly waiting for the critically acclaimed BONEWORKS (2019) to make its entrance onto Meta’s standalone game landscape. It seems that wait is almost over.
For those new to BONEWORKS, it’s a VR action-adventure that takes players through a thrilling narrative with groundbreaking experimental physics mechanics. The challenge lies in navigating dynamic environments, engaging in combat that relies heavily on physics, and solving puzzles that demand creative thinking.
Brandon Laatsch, who co-founded the studio, recently shared some exciting news on X (formerly Twitter). As part of their 2025 plans, the studio is not only enhancing their Marrow Engine with several patches but is also gearing up to release BONEWORKS for the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Take a look at what’s brewing for BONEWORKS on Quest 3 with a sneak peek:
> ’25 goals: Release Patch 7, 8, 9 for Bonelab with Marrow 2, 2.1, 2.2. Bring Boneworks to Quest 3 in parallel on Marrow 2. Pre-production for the next game. By x-linking Marrow, we’re aiming for compatibility. Boneworks is the nearest kin but is still tricky. Godspeed, SLZ!’ — Brandon J Laatsch (@BrandonJLa) January 1, 2025
Laatsch notes that they’re simultaneously advancing both Marrow 2.0 and BONEWORKS for Quest 3, while also dipping their toes into the pre-production phase for their next venture.
Interestingly, for those who can’t wait, there’s already a community-made mod called ‘Labworks’ that allows Quest 2 users to experience BONEWORKS. This mod took the dedicated indie developer, known as ‘volx64’, two years to perfect.
Despite the upcoming official release, Laatsch assures that they have no plans to remove this fan-made endeavor. He emphasizes that the Marrow Engine update will introduce substantial enhancements beyond what’s possible with a mere port.
While a release date still remains under wraps, we’ve got our notifications turned on for Brandon’s X account and are regularly scouring the studio’s YouTube channel for any fresh news.
