Astro Bot fans and PlayStation enthusiasts, rejoice! Last night, the charming and vibrant Astro Bot claimed the coveted Game of the Year award at the BAFTAs. It emerged victorious, surpassing other incredible contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
But the celebrations didn’t stop there. Astro Bot also scooped up a few more prestigious awards, including those for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This impressive achievement comes on the heels of their Game of the Year win at The Game Awards last year, where it astonishingly outshone numerous standout titles in what has been an exceptionally competitive 2024.
When it was time to accept the award, the entire team represented Astro Bot, but it was Nicolas Doucet who took the mic. He used the moment to pay tribute to the talented folks back in Japan. “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter,” he said, capturing the humble spirit behind the game’s creation.
Doucet didn’t stop there. He took a heartfelt pause to appreciate the game’s composer, the whole family at PlayStation, and all the partners whose contributions enhanced Astro Bot. A nod went to the BAFTA academy, the families of the developers, and the trailblazing video game creators of the past.
