Nintendo has officially announced that pre-orders for the Switch 2 will kick off in the United States on April 24. You’ll find the system priced at $449.99, and if you’re looking to snag a bundle with Mario Kart World, that will set you back $499.99.
The rollout of US pre-orders faced a bit of a hold-up right after the console was initially unveiled. Nintendo paused to evaluate how tariffs and changing market trends might affect things.
Not everything is holding at old prices, though. Accessories for the Switch 2 are seeing a jump in cost. Those Joy-Con 2 controllers, originally tagged at $89.99, are now listed at $94.99, and the Pro Controller has also seen a price increase from $79.99 to $84.99. Plus, you’ll notice similar hikes in prices for the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips.
In a statement, Nintendo mentioned that further price adjustments for their products could happen in the future depending on how markets fluctuate.
June 5 remains the planned release date for the console.
Originally, the pre-orders were penciled in to begin on April 9, but the timing clashed with President Donald Trump’s announcement of a broad series of tariffs. On that day, Trump announced a 90-day pause on most tariffs, with an exception for Chinese goods, leading to a shift in Nintendo’s plans.
When it comes to games, both Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza (slated for release on July 17) will stay at their current price points—$79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
As for what’s new and shiny, the Switch 2 boasts several advancements over its predecessor, including a bigger HDR-capable display, an additional USB Type-C port, and a beefier Nvidia graphics chip.
At $449.99, the new console is undoubtedly pricier than the original Switch, which launched at $299.99. Unsurprisingly, there’s been a chorus of fans asking Nintendo to “drop the price” on social media.
Along with their announcement, Nintendo expressed apologies for the pre-order delay, adding, “We hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing.”
