There’s a buzz going around about Ubisoft’s rumored new game, ‘Alterra,’ which is said to be taking inspiration from the likes of Animal Crossing. It seems the company is diving into the realm of voxel-based social simulations, potentially offering some serious competition to games like Stardew Valley, Coral Island, and Castaway Paradise that have already made waves on Xbox.
Word on the street, as highlighted by Insider Gaming, is that Alterra might just be a perfect blend of Animal Crossing charm and Minecraft-style building. Imagine setting up your island home, but this time with quirky Funko Pop-style neighbors called Matterlings. These little guys are set to add a dose of personality, and the game incorporates building mechanics similar to Minecraft, allowing you to craft your dream home on this virtual slice of paradise.
But it doesn’t stop there. Alterra is rumored to let players explore new worlds, each with its own unique biomes. Picture collecting rare resources from these diverse environments to spruce up your own home turf. Each world brings its own theme – shaping the creatures, adversaries, and materials you’ll find there. And those Matterlings? They’re expected to come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and styles, with updates slated to bring fresh faces over time.
Interacting with other players is another exciting prospect, though details on multiplayer features are still under wraps. Could this mean we get to wander through each other’s worlds and lend a helping hand? Time will tell.
The journey of Alterra began from the remains of a shelved project with Ubisoft Montreal at the helm for the past 18 months. Patrick Redding, the creative force behind Gotham Knights, is reportedly steering this ship, alongside Ubisoft veteran Fabien Lhéraud, who’s overseeing production.
In other Ubisoft tidbits, keep your eyes peeled for new info about Assassin’s Creed Shadows and its stealth mechanics. Meanwhile, Alterra seems to be shaping up into a fascinating venture. So, what do you think, would a social sim from Ubisoft catch your fancy? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
