Snap, the tech company renowned for its Snapchat app, has come up with a way to make its latest Spectacles AR Glasses more accessible for students and educators. They’ve introduced a new educational discount, slashing the hefty $1,200 launch price by half.
These fifth-generation Spectacles, known as Spectacles ’24, hit the market in September 2024. While they’re primarily aimed at developers, Snap set the price at $100 monthly for a one-year subscription. This latest version of the Spectacles has seen some significant upgrades from the 2021 fourth-gen release. Improvements include a wider field-of-view, enhanced resolution, innovative hand-tracking capabilities, and a thoroughly revamped software stack. Despite these impressive advancements, the cost has been a barrier for students and teachers eager to get their hands on them to experiment and learn about building AR apps.
Now, Snap is introducing a wallet-friendly student discount. The total cost is cut to half, coming in at $49.50 per month over a 12-month period for the initial purchase. Once the initial year is up, continued use will cost $49.50 monthly. Alternatively, there’s an option for a one-time payment of $594 covering the first 12 months, and the same $49.50 per month afterward for ongoing use.
To qualify for this attractive offer, you’ll need an email ending in .edu, or an email from an accredited educational institution. The discount isn’t just limited to the United States; students and teachers in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands can also hop on this deal.
