Sony has just rolled out its yearly summary of the most downloaded games across its PlayStation platforms for 2024. While there haven’t been massive shifts from the PSVR 2’s debut year, the results are exactly what we anticipated.
PSVR 2 is approaching its two-year mark, and despite some saying that the PS5-tethered VR headset has been overlooked since its February 2023 launch—citing a scarcity of exclusives and tight developer involvement that the original PSVR had—passionate users would beg to differ.
In fairness, the PSVR 2 is a powerhouse, enabling developers to achieve greater render resolutions and graphical depth compared to the reigning champion, the Meta Quest 3. Plus, it allows you to enjoy PC VR games, thanks to a wired adapter Sony released last June. But, if you’re curious about which games are actually capturing gamers’ interest on the PlayStation Store, the stats speak for themselves.

It’s no shocker that the iconic Beat Saber (2018) clinched the top spot in both North America and Europe. It’s a game we don’t hesitate to recommend to anyone new to VR.
Among the games making their debut in 2024, only Vertigo Games’ Metro Awakening and Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales managed to enter the top downloaded list. Admittedly, Metro Awakening was released in November 2024, which didn’t give it much time to climb up the charts, while Legendary Tales saw its 1.0 release across all major VR platforms in February 2024 after a significant Early Access journey on Steam.
But it’s not all as it seems. Vertigo Games’ standout zombie shooter, Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023), dropped last December, leaving it with less than a month to make a mark in the previous year’s top downloads.
