More than ten years have passed since its predecessor, but Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 remains incredibly loyal to the original Space Marine, a beloved classic that fans have eagerly awaited an update for. Excitingly, Space Marine 2 is now available at a discounted price for Black Friday, with physical copies for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This is the best price we’ve seen across any platform, though the PC version doesn’t have quite the same offer, Sales on Fanatical have brought Steam codes down to $52.79 from $59.99.
Space Marine 2 might not feature the flashy extras found in other major action games, but that’s because it doesn’t rely on such frills. Its setting is the far-flung future of the 41st millennium, where perpetual war reigns supreme. We follow Titus, an Ultramarine dedicated to serving the Emperor of Mankind, as he returns to action after spending centuries away.
As someone who’s delved deeply into the vast world of Warhammer 40,000, including reading various codices and novels that explore stories set thousands of years in the past, it’s refreshing to see how Space Marine 2 manages to be so approachable. You don’t need to constantly look up information to get through the story. Despite this accessibility, the game fully embraces the essence of 40K, complete with robotic cherubs and tech cultists stationed on Titus’ battle barge. The campaign’s setting beautifully captures the grand, gothic, and often absurd elements of the Imperium of Man and the Imperial Guard.
Where Space Marine 2 truly shines is in its combat. Titus charges through waves of Tyranids, tearing them apart with his powerful gauntlets and crushing them underfoot. Throw in some exciting weapons, like a flamethrower for torching Rippers, or a laser sniper rifle, and you’ve got yourself a wildly fun experience.
