Incuvo’s 2022 release, Green Hell VR, a VR rendition of the well-loved open-world survival game, is finally introducing the co-op mode that fans have eagerly awaited. Set to debut this December on both Quest and PSVR 2, this update is a welcome addition to the game.
Initially announced back in April 2023, the co-op feature for Green Hell VR will officially arrive on December 16th. Owners of the game on PSVR 2 and Quest platforms, specifically Quest 2, 3, and 3S, will be able to access this update at no additional cost. This multiplayer mode allows up to four players to join forces, enhancing the thrilling survivalist gameplay. Teamwork becomes paramount as players must hunt for food using melee or ranged weapons, build shelters against environmental threats, and guard one another from the jungle’s menacing predators. Additionally, players in need of medical attention will be easy to spot, with ailments like pesky leeches visibly clinging to them, enabling team members to lend assistance.
However, there’s a bit of a setback for those hoping for cross-play functionality. This update will not support cross-play across any platforms, so players on PC, Quest, and PSVR 2 will need to stick within their respective environments. The studio clarified in a recent X post that while developing the multiplayer update was their primary focus, integrating cross-play would have extended the development time significantly. They assured players that the idea remains on their radar for possible future updates.
Andrzej Wychowaniec, CEO of Incuvo, expressed the significance of this update, saying, “Bringing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is extremely important to our VR community, and we know they have been waiting for this feature since we first launched the game on those platforms. Still, we had to ensure it lived up to their expectations for an immersive, co-op survival experience.”
As for the SteamVR version, there’s no confirmation yet on whether this long-anticipated co-op feature will make its way there. It seems unlikely, given that the PC VR version hasn’t seen much attention since its last update in late 2022. The studio has since concentrated efforts on launching the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion on Quest and PSVR 2, leaving the Steam version somewhat stagnant.
