Toby Fox, the creator of the beloved episodic RPG Deltarune, recently brought fans up to speed on the progress of the much-anticipated Chapters 3 and 4, both of which are set for release in 2025. Having last received Chapter 2 over three years ago, fans are buzzing with excitement to dive back into the adventures of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei. Drawing from the gameplay mechanics that made his 2015 hit Undertale a phenomenon, Deltarune will ultimately unfold across seven chapters. Chapters 1 and 2, launched in 2018 and 2021 respectively, have been praised for their humor, character development, and the captivating soundtrack—composed by Fox himself. By December 2024, Fox reported that Chapters 3 and 4 were nearing completion, although bug testing and translations still needed time. Now, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the 2025 launch, with Fox’s recent updates offering a clearer picture of what to expect.

In a new update posted on BlueSky, Fox shared details about the ongoing development of Chapters 3 and 4, confirming that console testing is still a critical step in the process. Noting fewer bugs cropping up in the recent rounds, Fox admitted that there’s still a significant amount of content to sift through. Testing for the PlayStation 5 version, however, is yet to commence. The team is also working on a crucial feature that will allow players’ save files from the demo to transition seamlessly to the full console version—an achievement only recently made possible. While this might seem like a daunting delay, Fox reassured followers that the new chapters will “100%” be out in 2025.

Back in July 2024, Fox had declared Chapter 4 fully playable, albeit needing some final polish. Fans can look forward to both new chapters launching simultaneously across all platforms, a first for the series as Chapters 1 and 2 debuted on PC before hitting consoles. Meanwhile, development on Chapter 5 has already kicked off, with steady progress reported in December 2024.

Though Deltarune has certainly made its mark, it hasn’t quite reached the legendary status of Undertale, Toby Fox’s breakout success that continues to inspire fans nearly a decade after its original release.
