Gaijin Entertainment, the creators renowned for War Thunder (2013), have exciting news for fans of aerial combat. The upcoming virtual reality game, Aces of Thunder, is making its way to both PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets, with a launch locked in for this year.
Initially announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was anticipated to debut in the final months of 2024, promising to bring an impressive lineup of iconic World War-era aircraft to platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Gaijin has been enthusiastic about revealing not only a variety of planes from the WWII era but also introducing a selection of aircraft from WWI. This is sure to please aviation buffs.
The studio elaborates, “You’ll navigate legendary fighters like the Fokker Dr.I, the signature aircraft of the Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, favored by René Fonck, the Allies’ most celebrated ace. These planes will feature meticulously detailed cockpits, historically faithful weaponry, and flight models that promise an engaging and authentic experience.”
Alongside these WWI stalwarts, the selection includes notable WWII planes such as the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, Germany’s Bf 109 and Fw 190, the Soviet workhorse IL-2, the elegant British Spitfire, and Japan’s agile A6M3 Zero.
Though we’re still waiting for a precise release date, Gaijin has informed Road to VR that they’re now eyeing a 2025 release. Enthusiasts can, however, express their interest by adding it to their wishlists on Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
As for the pricing, it remains a mystery for now, but we are eagerly watching for any updates to soar our way about Aces of Thunder.
