Warner Bros, a major player in the entertainment arena, has reportedly decided to pull the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy.
According to Bloomberg, there were plans for this expansion to be launched alongside a “Definitive Edition” of the Harry Potter-themed action RPG, which was expected to come with additional storylines. However, the amount of content slated for this package apparently wasn’t deemed sufficient to match the price tag it would have carried.
The development of the expansion was in the hands of Avalanche Software—the original creators of Hogwarts Legacy—and Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also said to be working on a sequel to the popular Harry Potter game.
Rocksteady recently faced some tough times, having laid off staff after it announced it would cease support for the 2024 game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Warner Bros has openly admitted that its gaming segment wasn’t performing up to expectations, highlighting a challenging period last year. During this time, they took a significant financial hit of $200 million with the write-off of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. As part of belt-tightening measures, the company also shuttered three of its studios, one being Monolith. Adding to these turbulent times, Warner Bros saw the departure of its long-serving executive, David Haddad.
