World of Warcraft Classic fans have something to cheer about. The popular Scourge Invasions are set to remain a part of the game during the Season of Discovery Phase 8, offering players fresh challenges and exciting rewards. Initially, players were left wondering whether this world event would stick around, as some Public Test Realm (PTR) builds seemed to omit it. However, Josh Greenfield, a senior game producer at World of Warcraft, cleared up the confusion by confirming the event isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
For those who might not be up to speed, Scourge Invasions were introduced in Phase 7 of the WoW Classic Season of Discovery. In this event, players engage in epic battles against undead foes and cultists across major cities and various zones to earn impressive gear and valuable items. The uncertainty originally stemmed from questions about whether the event would follow in the footsteps of Phase 3’s Nightmare Incursions, which saw changes—or conclude following the defeat of Kel’thuzad in the Naxxramas raid.
In a recent update, Greenfield made it official via a post on Bluesky, stating that the Scourge Invasions will continue to be available after the update, much to the delight of players. This means adventurers can still gather Necrotic Runes, Sanctified armor, and other unique rewards.
There was some misplaced worry among fans, sparked by certain versions of the PTR for Season of Discovery Phase 8 that didn’t include the Scourge Invasions. Greenfield explained that the test realms sometimes see different setups compared to what will go live, which likely led to the appearances—and subsequent disappearances—of the Scourge event in those environments. But rest assured, the Scourge Invasions will stay put in the live game as Phase 8 kicks off.
The decision to keep the Scourge Invasions aligns well with players’ interests and expectations. It’s become a beloved feature in the game for the new challenges and unique rewards it presents, as well as its addition to the depth of content in the current season. With Season of Discovery Phase 8 potentially being the last of its kind, the continuation of this event ensures players have plenty to engage with as the season wraps up.
As for the release schedule, players won’t have to wait much longer. On April 8, World of Warcraft introduces new outdoor content alongside profession-related quests in New Avalon and objectives linked to the Scarlet Enclave. The excitement continues on April 10, with the launch of a Scarlet Enclave Raid and a Legendary weapon questline, all kicking off at 1 PM PDT.
